Welcome to Beer Dabbler’s Freshies, our weekly rundown on the newest beers hitting the store shelves and taproom coolers in Minnesota from your favorite local and national breweries. 

T

he holidays are here already. Whether you’re seeking the perfect pairing for a special meal or a fireside sipper for those long, dark nights, there are a variety of beers to hit the spot. From complex and boozy barleywines to crisp and light Pilsners, there are diverse flavors for any celebration or reflection, from this week’s solstice through New Year’s.

Barrel Theory Rage Quit Pilsner 4pk 16oz –  Rage Quit is a perfectly crisp, unfiltered pilsner that’s perfect if you are looking for a straightforward ber. 4.9% ABV

Other Half Dream In Green DDH Oat Cream IPA 4pk 16oz – A hazy oat cream IPA brewed with milk sugar, oats, and a hand-selected blend of hops with notes of lychee, sweet citrus, papaya, and sweet fruit medley. 6.2% ABV

Alesmith Speedway NA Dark Brew 6pk 12oz – This new dark brew boasts the same bold and complex flavor as Alesmith’s classic Speedway Stout. Crafted with the finest ingredients, and packed with notes of dark chocolate, espresso, and roasted malts, this beer is the perfect choice for those who want to enjoy the taste of a full-bodied brew, minus the alcohol. 0% ABV

Pipeworks Connoisseurs Of Comfort Hazy IPA 4pk 16oz – A delicious Hazy IPA with Mosaic, Simcoe, Amarillo, and Idaho 7 hops. 7.3% ABV

Portage Mad at Midnight Pastry Stout Single 750ml – Portage Brewing’s first big porter release back in 2017 that they have since improved in their recipe process. This time around they blended ten-month-old Buffalo Trace Bourbon barrel-aged beer to their recipe’s base, used malts with more roast character, then followed it up with subtle amounts of ancho chilis and cinnamon, with a heavy dose of toasted cacao nibs and vanilla beans. Rich and decadent, with a big round chocolate character, followed by a slight character of cinnamon spice and pepper heat. 10.5% ABV

Bald Man Brewing

  • Shades of Winter Formerly known as Hazy Shades of Winter, this seasonal brown ale with hazelnut is back at the brewery now. Also sold in 4-packs at Bald Man. 5.5% ABV.

Barrel Theory Beer Company

  • Pulling Strings Riwaka and Nectaron hops set the tone, with flavors of tangerine, tropical fruits, and pithy bitterness.
  • Rage Quit A light and slightly sweet Pilsner with lemon, floral, and cereal notes.

Bauhaus Brew Labs

  • Tetra: Hibiscus & Orange Peel – “Brewed with real hibiscus flowers for a vibrant, floral taste with a hint of citrus,” the brewery says of its newest flavor of THC beverage.
  • Žižkov! New at Bauhaus and in stores soon, this new beer is a 5.2% ABV, 45 IBU Czech-style Pilsner with toasted biscuit and floral and spicy notes.

Bear Cave Brewing

  • Cranberry Hard Seltzer with Rosemary A 6.5% ABV seasonal hard seltzer.
  • King Ursus A big imperial stout with flavors of deep caramel, Baker’s chocolate, dried fruits, and brown sugar. 10.0% ABV, 90 IBU.

Bemidji Brewing

From Dec. 20-23, Bemidji is celebrating Dark Beer Week with special dark beer flights and limited infusions, including Chocolate Peanut Butter Stout.

Bent Brewstillery

  • Triple Berry Gose  Available at noon on Saturday, Dec. 23, this sour ale was made with blueberry, raspberry, and strawberry.
  • Wolf Sweater A rich and dry Belgian-style dark strong ale with fruit and spice character. Tapped last Saturday.

Birch’s On The Lake

  • Ginger Ale A new THC seltzer made with fresh ginger.
  • Mexican Chocolate Milk Stout Back on tap, this is a seasonal stout made with cinnamon plus ancho, chipotle, habanero, and ghost peppers. 6.1% ABV.
  • Strata IPA A West Coast-style IPA with all Strata hops. 6.7% ABV.
  • THC Seltzer: Lemonade Also recently available.

Blacklist Brewing Co.

  • Cran The 8.6% ABV Belgian-style strong golden ale, fermented with cranberries, is back.
  • Old Fashioned Barleywine ’22 A limited release aged in Buffalo Trace barrels, offering cherry and spice notes. 9.0% ABV.

BlackStack Brewing

  • Slopes A soft, unfiltered, and naturally carbonated French-style Pilsner. 4.6% ABV.
  • Triple 755 – “Even More Wheat. Even More Oats. Even More of our Hand-Selected Citra, Azacca, and Amarillo. Even heftier amounts of the Hand-Selected Cryo versions of all the same to finish it off,” the brewery says of this 10.8% ABV triple dry-hopped triple IPA.

Bluff Brothers Brewing

  • Firewood Porter Back on tap as of the start of the month.

Bobbing Bobber Brewing Company

  • 5 O’Clock Shadow On tap for the first time since 2018, this cream ale is made with added cold-pressed coffee and vanilla.
  • Set The Sails An English-style red ale, now sold in cans and on draft.

Copper Trail Brewing Company

  • Midwest Midnight For a limited time, Copper Trail is pouring on nitro at the Alexandria brewery.

Drastic Measures Brewing

  • Drizzlin’ A blue-hued hard seltzer made with blue raspberry, coconut cream, and Sour Patch Kids. 6.5% ABV.
  • Floggy A hazy double IPA made with Galaxy, Citra, and Nelson hops. 8% ABV.

Elm Creek Brewing Co.

  • Non-Alcoholic Rare Candy A fruity and nonalcoholic sour ale. <.5% ABV.
  • Seek A new peach and blueberry flavored THC beverage.
  • Squirrel Cheeks A peanut butter milk stout at 5.5% ABV.

Fair State Brewing Cooperative

  • Cooperator Doppelbock “We added moderate amounts of smoked and rye malts, and we aged it in an oak foeder for almost two months,” Fair State says. “The final product is malty and moderately sweet with flavors of mild smoke, oak tannin, grape nuts, and a hint of roast.”
  • Old Sod A dry stout scheduled to tap on Dec. 28.

Hacienda Beer Co.

  • Magnets, How Do They Work? Tapped last week, this 7.5% ABV hazy IPA is mildly bitter and juicy with pine, grapefruit, and raspberry notes.
  • Verge of Excess A 9.3% ABV Belgian-style golden ale available on Dec. 23.

Indeed Brewing Company

  • Stir Crazy The porter is back on draft at Indeed in Minneapolis for a limited time.
  • Winter Solstice Flight Night Available in limited supply beginning Thursday:
    • Cherry Schwarzbier
    • Chocolate & Vanilla Stir Crazy Porter
    • Cinnamon & Pecan Tmavý

Karst Brewing

  • Sisu An imperial porter, which debuts at Karst’s Friday Solstice party.

Lost Saint Brewing Company

  • Pleased To Meet Me A Dusseldorf-style ale, “It is a nice copper color with a malty backbone and slight spicy hoppiness,” the brewery says.
  • Sweet Potato Porter A seasonal porter made with steamed sweet potatoes.

Minnesota Beer Co.

  • Full Moon Ale A new batch recently tapped in Grove City. 5.0% ABV, 26 IBU.

Oliphant Brewing

  • Double Lumberjack Baes Citra, Mosaic, and Cascade set the base in a new, limited 8.5% ABV imperial IPA.
  • Xuul An 8% ABV doppelbock, out now.

Saint Paul Brewing

  • Sweet Miracle The weekly Tuesday porter infusion at Saint Paul Brewing, to tap on Tuesday, Dec. 26.
  • Xanadu This week’s Tuesday porter infusion of the week.

Schell’s Brewery

  • Oatmeal Stout Sold in the winter mixed pack along with No Frills, Firebrick, and Dark.

Surly Brewing Co.

  • Outlook Good – A new nonalcoholic hoppy ale, “It delivers the sturdy malt backbone and aromatic hop profile any craft beer enthusiast would want from a full-flavored pale ale, absent the alcohol,” Surly says.

The Freehouse

  • Piefinity – Available now, this variant of Infinity Imperial Stout is made with black currant, inspired by rich dark fruit winter pie.

Ullsperger Brewing

  • CoCoNuT Pete – A 4.7% ABV cream ale brewed with El Dorado hops for the pineapple-like character, plus a dose of flaked coconut.

Waconia Brewing Company

  • Laketown Brown To tap on Dec. 22.
  • Pecan Porter Tapped on Wednesday.

Waldmann Brewery

  • Weihnachtsbier A holiday ale made with orange peel, cinnamon, nutmeg, and honey. On tap for Winter Solstice on Dec. 21.

Wild Mind Ales

  • Color Test To tap this Friday, this is a 3.7% ABV farmhouse ale made with Loral hops.
