Welcome to Beer Dabbler’s Freshies, our weekly rundown on the newest beers hitting the store shelves and taproom coolers in Minnesota from your favorite local and national breweries. 

S

ure, Champagne and bloody marys are among the more popular New Year’s Eve and morning-after drinks. But as this week’s listing shows, beer is fitting for (nearly) every occasion. From bubbly brut IPAs to creative bloody mary mixers, breweries across the state are celebrating this weekend with their own in-house concoctions and a bevy of hoppy hazies, malty Scotch ales, and barrel-aged goodness, too.

Lift Bridge Motörhead Iron Fist Hazy IPA – A New England Hazy IPA that rings in the New Year at 6.0% ABV.

Modist Unending Vienna Lager – This Vienna Lager was brewed with German Vienna and Munich malts before it was kettle hopped with German Hallertau Mittelfruh. Notes of caramel and baked bread that are hoppy and malty on the palate.

Lagunitas Refresher Hop Water Variety Pack – Thinking of participating in dry January? This variety pack offers carbonated dry-hopped sparkling waters feature Citra, Equinox, and Centennial hops.

Portage Shores of Time Double Stout — Portage went back to the basics to make a delicious stout beer that offers rich, simple notes of chocolate and coconut.

Clutch Inari Fox Japanese Lager – A Japanese-style lager that provides a light, smooth sip alongside delicate notes of honey and rice. 6.0% ABV.

608 Brewing Company

  • Vote! For IPA – A 7.2% ABV hazy IPA featuring a blend of Citra, Mosaic, and Galaxy hops.
  • WTF Is A Wheatwine – A 14.2% ABV winter warmer, “Aged for 23 in Elijah Craig 8-year bourbon barrels, with notes of oaky Vanilla toffee, rich caramel, and subtle pear,” 608 says. Sold on draft and in 500-milliliter bottles that debuted last week.

Alloy Brewing Company

  • SMaSH v7 – This single malt and single hop recipe features Maris Otter malt and Mackinac hops, pouring at 5.9% ABV, 32 IBU.

Angry Inch Brewing

  • Ale To The Queen – An English-style pub ale with toasted bread, sweet honey, and biscuit flavors with a semi-sweet finish, brewed the day the Queen passed away.
  • Brewers Breakfast – An oatmeal stout brewed with aged honey.
  • Never Ending – “Brewed with Nectaron hops out of New Zealand the beer has a lovely tropical peach nose, soft hazy body, leading to a pineapple and passion fruit finish,” Angry Inch says of their latest in this IPA series.
  • The Balvinchi

Arbeiter Brewing

  • OG Tropical Seltzer – Arbeiter’s new THC beverage is a blend of their non-alcoholic tropical sour ale and seltzer. 6mg per serving, 2 per Crowler.
  • Peach Spritzig – A 5.8% ABV hard seltzer made with organic peach purée. Gluten-free.
  • Pfeffernusse Leased – A winter warmer inspired by a traditional German dessert.

Back Channel Brewing

  • Duck Duck Duck Duck – “Duck x4 is a four year blend of barrel aged imperial stouts that culminates next winter for year five,” the brewery says. Limited to only 60 bottles and on sale, as of Dec. 23. 11.0% ABV.
  • F*ck That Guy – Flavors of passion fruit, mango, and pineapple in a New England-style double IPA. 8.5% ABV.
  • Nurture – A 4.25% ABV American light rice lager: dry, crisp, and sold in 16-ounce cans in addition to draft.

Back Shed Brewing

  • Buddy’s Brew – A Christmas-themed easy drinking stout with cocoa nibs, peppermint, and marshmallow. Served on nitro at the brewery in limited supply.
  • Dock Holliday – A German-style gose sour with huckleberries and lime.
  • Paunchy and Left Eye Peanut Butter – Back Shed’s oatmeal stout infused with peanut butter. Available on nitro at the brewery.
  • Woah Nellie – Inspired by peach melba, “You’ll find a soft peach forward flavor with subtle raspberry notes in this sour. We added a touch of lemon and vanilla to round out the flavors,” the brewery explains.

Bad Habit Brewing Company

  • Mimosa Seltzer – On tap for New Year’s Eve.
  • Samba Mamba
  • Strawberry Smoothie Sour Ale

Bear Cave Brewing

  • ‘Til Midnight – A sparkling brut IPA with red berry notes and a dry, champagne-like finish. 7.3% ABV, 17 IBU.

Drekker Brewing Company

  • Braaaaaaaains! – Mango, lime, and coconut, plus sea salt, lactose, and vanilla beans.
  • Fangs Out – “We brewed Fangs Out with a bunch of oats and spelt and hopped it with Centennial, Citra, Mosaic, and Galaxy for some killer tropical fruit and citrus flavor and aroma balanced out with just the perfect bitterness,” the brewery says of its newest IPA.
  • King of the Thing – A juicy double IPA built around Citra hops with lychee, candied lemon, and peach bellini-esque flavors.
  • Please Accept our Sacrifice of Fruit Pizza – A “fruit pizza sour” made with strawberry, blueberry, kiwi, orange, cream cheese frosting, and sugar cookies, made in collaboration with The Brewing Projekt. Lactose free.
  • Slang Du Jour – Marrionberry and plum set a fruity tone in this cobbler beer, also made with cinnamon, lactose, brown sugar, vanilla beans, and granola.
  • Spider Inside My Dreams – A select barrel of The Nightman Cometh, conditioned on hazelnuts, cacao nibs, and marshmallows.
  • The Nightman Cometh – An adjunct-free bourbon barrel-aged Russian imperial stout, aged for nearly two years in Willett barrels.

Duluth Cider

  • Pineapple Jolly Roger – A pineapple co-fermented version of our Jolly Roger Rum Barrel-Aged cider, the cidery says. 7.8% ABV, sold individually and in a barrel-aged box set along with the ciders listed below.
  • Rye Barrel-Aged Chai Spiced Cider – A limited 7.3% ABV barrel-aged cider, tapped last Friday.
  • Sea Salt Bourbon Barrel-Aged Cider – This smooth and dry cider was aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels and pours at 8.3% ABV with a salty finish, the cidery notes.

Fair State Brewing Cooperative

  • Doin’ Science Pils Vol. 2 – Fair State is making minor ingredient changes in this Pilsner series. “This time we’re trialing out a blend of European and American pilsner malts to see if we can hit the sweet spot of crisp but malty, round but not sweet, balanced in all things,” the brewery says.

Hacienda Beer Co.

  • From Sand + Stone – A 6.8% ABV hazy IPA made with Riwaka, Mosaic, and Strata hops.

Heavy Rotation Brewing Co.

  • B.P. Pale Ale – A new collaboration with Brooklyn Park Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 5031, the brewery says: “This juicy, citrus forward pale ale with just a touch of grapefruit is exactly what you need.”
  • Ruff Mornin’ – This is a soft and hazy IPA brewed with cold brew coffee beans from Get Down Coffee.

Kinney Creek Brewery

  • Silenus Sour: Blueberry – A first beer in a new sour series. Available on draft.
  • Silenus Sour: Mixed Berry – The second new beer to tap in the Silenus sour line.

Lakes & Legends Brewing Company

  • Stout Szn: Chocolate Banana Imperial Stout – A limited infusion, available today.

Lupulin Brewing Company

  • Doppelbock – This German-style doppelbock is on draft now and pours at 8% ABV, 25 IBU.

MetroNOME Brewery

  • Naughty Santa – A dark Belgian-style strong ale for the holidays, steeped on cacao nibs. 10.2% ABV.

Nine Mile Brewing

  • Double Sol – A New England-style double IPA brewed with six hop varieties, plus a thiolized yeast for bigger aromatics. Expect orange and citrus tones, the brewery says. 8.2% ABV.
  • Dreher’s Dominion – A Vienna-style lager, the brewery explains: “Built on a base of German Vienna malt, with a slight bump of Munich malt for nuance…this simple grist showcases itself in excellent fashion. A couple additions of German Saphir hops throughout the boil add delicate balance as well as their signature noble earthy spice and light floral tones.” Malt-forward, crisp and clean. 5.5% ABV.
  • Seltzer Bloody Bar –A build-your-own bar featuring Nine Mile’s hard seltzer will be open to the public from 2-7pm on New Year’s Day.

Oliphant Brewing

  • Chonees Chonees – A golden ale with chocolate, peanut butter, and honey. 5.5% ABV.
  • Wisconsin Dellsozoic Era: An Animatronic Diarama – A taproom exclusive bourbon barrel-aged, smoked wee heavy. 9% ABV.

Portage Brewing Company

  • Juicetree – A New England-style double IPA at 8% ABV.
  • Miles Away – A New England-style IPA that tapped earlier this month. 7% ABV.
  • North of There – A 5.8% ABV hoppy pale ale, available since early December.
  • Woods of Winter – A malty Scotch ale, aged in heaven Hill bourbon barrels and blending with vanilla beans.

Pryes Brewing Co.

Pryes is hosting a beer cocktail brunch, opening at 11am on New Year’s Day, in addition to their regular offering of the Peace Coffee collaboration Peace Offering.

  • Limosa – Lime Seltzer and orange juice
  • RazMonkey –Royal Raspberry Sour and orange juice
  • Red Beer – Pragmatic Pils and Bloody Mary mix

Saint Paul Brewing

  • Sweet Miracle – The final infusion in the Porterfest series, Sweet Miracle is made with salted caramel and tapped this Tuesday.

Schell’s Brewery

  • Bock –  Back as of this Thursday.

Surly Brewing Co.

  • Hypermodern IPA –  Previously sold in mixed packs only, this IPA with melon, red berry, pineapple, and tangerine flavors is now sold in 6-packs and on draft through January. Sabro was added to the recipe for increased tropical fruit notes.

Additionally, three special cocktails will be served at a New Year’s Day brunch from 10am-4pm.

  • Michelada – Pizza Party lager and bloody mary mix with a picante rim.
  • Raspberry Retrograde – Surly tonic plus rosé lager, raspberry puree, simple syrup, and lemon juice.
  • Screw Up A – beertail mimosa made with Surly tonic, lemon-lime soda, and orange juice.

The Freehouse

  • No. 66 Berry Smoothie Sour Ale – A hazy and pink ale with creamy berry aromas, tart fruits, and creamy vanilla. 5.3% ABV.

Unmapped Brewing Co.

  • Spruce Top No Trace – “We added freshly cut northern Minnesota spruce tops to our flagship IPA. Botanicals from the spruce compliment the natural pine aromas and flavors of the Amarillo hops in No Trace,” the brewery says of this new but limited offering.
  • Uncharted Territory – A collaboration with 56, available at both breweries, Uncharted Territory is a double chocolate stout with soft roast flavors and a sweet finish.

Venn Brewing Company

  • Cosmosis Strawbiscus – A 9.0% ABV sour ale with strawberries and hibiscus.
  • Creamium Rosé – A hibiscus cream ale at 5.2% ABV.
  • Winter Warmer – A sahti-inspired imperial lager with juniper. 9.0% ABV.

Waconia Brewing Company

  • Robust Porter – Tapping on Dec. 31.

Wicked Wort Brewing Co.

  • Ol’ Bessie

Wild Mind Ales

  • Caked Up –A 6.0% ABV smoothie-style sour ale inspired by a pineapple upside down cake, made with pineapple, sweet cherry, chocolate covered graham cracker cones, ice cream, and marshmallow.
  • WLD WTR: Infusions – Citrus Punch flavor will debut this Friday, Dec. 30.

Wooden Hill Brewing Co.

  • Hot Shoulder – A kolsch-style ale with mango and habañero. 5.7% ABV.
