Welcome to Beer Dabbler’s Freshies, our weekly rundown on the newest beers hitting the store shelves and taproom coolers in Minnesota from your favorite local and national breweries.

T

he sweet tooth seems to be fading after a month of Halloween candy and similarly sweet beers. In contrast, we’re seeing a mix of sour ale varieties on tap and in bottles, ranging from the pastry smoothie style to tart and wild varieties. This week has bottle releases at Pryes, Lupulin, and Inbound, showcasing the different things hops, barley, water, and yeast can do – often with a little fruity addition.

But the trick-or-treat spirit remains in some sense. There are plenty of unique beers out there, but you need to seek them out, be it a taproom exclusive or one of many beers hitting liquor stores ahead of draft lines.

Each week, the Beer Dabbler team highlights five of the most tantalizing new beers available around the great state of Minnesota that we’re most excited to try. Top Flight beers are not necessarily available for purchase at Dabbler Depot–call for availability.

Fair State Doin’ Science – A new series with modified ingredients applied to the Pils original recipe. “Everything about this beer is the same as Pils except the base malt is a Czech pilsner malt from Raven Trading,” says the brewery, making this batch a little more sweet and grassy, yet familiar. 4.9% ABV.

Lupulin Cerise de Chance ’22 – An 8% ABV Belgian-style ale, aged in neutral oak barrels with Brettanomyces and cherries. Bottles go on sale at 2pm today Nov. 4th (12pm online, 2pm in person).

Modist Fang & Bone – This Pilsner lager was aged in oak foeders and hopped (and dry-hopped) with New Zealand-grown Wakatu and Nelson Sauvin hops.

Montgomery Haze Against the Machine – A hazy triple IPA and award winner at Autumn Brew Review this year, out now.

Schell’s Snowstorm 2022 – A multi-grain lager with a smooth, bready finish, Schell’s says of this new “Mahogony lager” brewed for the long, cold season ahead. 6.7% ABV.
