Welcome to Beer Dabbler’s Freshies, our weekly rundown on the newest beers hitting the store shelves and taproom coolers in Minnesota from your favorite local and national breweries.

I

t’s finally here. Winter darkness. Freezing temperatures. Even snow up north.

So, fittingly, it’s barleywine and barrel-aged season, too. This week’s new taps and bottles include classic English-style barleywine heavy hitters, alongside imperial stouts, a doppelbock, and, yes some French toast and cookie-inspired offerings too.

Each week, the Beer Dabbler team highlights five of the most tantalizing new beers available around the great state of Minnesota that we’re most excited to try. Top Flight beers are not necessarily available for purchase at Dabbler Depot–call for availability.

Hacienda Beer Co. What Could Have Been – “The beer has soft, elegant malt complexity with subtle toasty bread and floral character, with balancing noble hop bitterness and a dry finish,” Hacienda says of its Vienna-style lager, available on Saturday.

Pantown Brewing Company Prodigal Son – Pantown’s saison, but aged in oak whiskey barrels that previously held cider from Milk and Honey. A limited release, tapped a week ago.

Revelation Ale Works Resistance Is Futile – A combination of breweries (Revelation and Disgruntled), plus a combination of Azacca, El Dorado and Lemon Drop hops, go into this hazy IPA with honey. “It’s juicy with an amazing lemon aroma,” Revelation says.
