Welcome to Beer Dabbler’s Freshies, our weekly rundown on the newest beers hitting the store shelves and taproom coolers in Minnesota from your favorite local and national breweries. 

T

hose who say modern beer is nothing by IPA aren’t looking very hard–The theme of the week is variety, ranging from classic styles like doppelbock and dunkel lagers to fruited kettle sours, s’mores-inspired pastry stouts, nonalcoholic drinks, and THC seltzers too. You’ll find berry blondes, coffee beer, local pop tarts, nostalgic winks, and brand-new hop varieties at the core of this week’s new options. There is something for everybody, whether you’ve slowed down for January, gone dry, or somewhere in between.

Superstition Meadery Gryphons Tart Cherry Cyser Mead 750ml – This delightful Cherry Mead exhibits beautiful complexity from resting in Black Berry White barrels for 10 months.   • T.I.N.G. Hard Soda: Dew of the Mountain – A 5.5% ABV spin on a classic soda.

BlackStack Brewing

  • Real Trees: King Size Blackberry Lemonade A 10mg THC beverage with no alcohol.

Dangerous Man Brewing Company

  • Raspberry Sour “It is an all-out raspberry bomb bursting with bright notes of berries and tartness. Fruited with heaps of raspberry and hopped with Belma and Mosaic hops for an extra berry punch,” the brewery says. 5.5% ABV.

Duluth Cider

  • Cherry Pie Pop Tart – A limited cider collaboration with Duluth’s Best Bread, inspired by their hour pop tarts. 6.5% ABV, semi-sweet.

Fair State Brewing Cooperative

  • Bronde on Bronde – Tapped last week, this is a golden ale infused with whole bean and cold brew coffee. 6.3% ABV.

Fitger’s Brewhouse

  • Pop Tart Cream Ale – Another Duluth’s Best Bread collaboration this week, this cream ale was made with strawberries, oats, lactose, and vanilla.

Hayes’ Public House

  • Peanut Butter Porter 6.5% ABV

Ineffable Brewing

  • Air Quality Alert Hazy IPA
  • Merry Berry Ale

Insight Brewing

  • Demo Tape “This hazy is brewed with Phantasm and an amalgamation of cryo hop blends,” the brewery says. “It’s juicy, pillowy soft, and comes in at 7.3% ABV. We’ve got it on tap. Made in collaboration with Fair State.
  • Flavor Pixels: Orange Creamsicle – The THC beverage is now sold in 12-packs.

Inver Grove Brewing Co.

  • Jimbo’s Dark Lager

Invictus Brewing Co.

  • BA Snicker Stout – A limited 7.1% ABV stout with some candy inspiration.

  • Tyrannosaurus Press – A pastry stout made with real cookies and coffee too.

Jack Pine Brewery

The brewery celebrated its 11th anniversary with multiple 1990s-inspired beers, plus their annual Big Buck.

  • Big Buck – In cans for the first time, Big Buck 2024 is out now. The brewery will also pour vintages at a vertical tasting event on Saturday, Jan. 27.
  • Blast! – A hard seltzer inspired by a ‘90s citrus soda.
  • Stake To The Heart Amber ale
  • Strawberry Smacker – A kettle sour flavor named with a nod to Lip Smacker chapstick.
  • Yo! MTV Frapps – A frappuccino stout made with cold press coffee, caramel, and lactose.

Lift Bridge Brewing Co.

  • S’more Snow A brown ale with marshmallow, graham cracker, and chocolate — and the official beer of the 2024 World Snow Sculpting Championship, which takes place in Stillwater Jan. 17-21 at Lowell Park. 4.7% ABV and available at the hospitality tent.
  • Silhouette – The bourbon barrel-aged and highly reviewed imperial stout is back for the new year. “For 2024 we rested Silhouette atop whole Madagascar vanilla beans for up to 4 years. Aromas of coffee, molasses, and chocolate meld with the vanilla and an intense dark roasted character from the barrel,” Lift Bridge says. A Single Barrel Ruby Port variant is also sold in bottles.

New Glarus Brewery

  • Spotted Cow Grand Cru – The Wisconsin-only Spotted Cow gets a winter kick. This grand cru is made with coriander and orange peel and pours at 9% ABV.

Nine Mile Brewing

  • Bodacious Bevvy – A fruity and floral blonde ale with blackberry. 5.1% ABV.

Odell Brewing Co.

  • Pils – “For our unique take on the style, whole flower hops are added to our hopback to preserve delicate essential oils. The result is complex, refreshing, and ridiculously drinkable,” the Colorado brewery states.
  • Wire Walker A limited new West Coast-style double IPA, described as hop-forward but with a malt balance.

Oliphant Brewing

  • Blueberry Cheesecake Disaster – The first Disaster, a new line from Oliphant, this THC beverage is inspired by blueberry cheesecake. THC 10mg, CBD 5mg.
  • Practitioner Of Duck Art – A 13% ABV imperial stout made in Somerset.

Shakopee Brewhall

  • Isolator – A malt-forward, sweet doppelbock.

  • Pie Fight – The latest imperial stout has notes of coconut and banana cream pie, the brewery says.

Snarky Loon Brewing Co.

  • Dunkel  Lager
  • Nitro Milk Stout

Spilled Grain Brewhouse

  • Speakeasy “Aged on Old Forester soaked oak chips, fresh orange puree, and spices to mimic bitters, this beer is a delicious sipper,” the brewery says of its 9.3% ABV offering inspired by the Old Fashioned cocktail.

Surly Brewing Co.

  • Taylor – A new IPA made with Surly’s house yeast and an experimental hop, offering tropical, citrus, and stone fruit flavors.
  • Travis – This uses the same hop profile at Taylor but with thiolized yeast. It has notes of grapefruit, lemon, and pineapple.

Swing Barrel Brewing Co.

  • Are We Not Men? This is a clean, crisp, and heady Pilsner at 5.2% ABV.

Talking Waters Brewing Co.

  • Blabbermouth A hazy double IPA, juicy in profile and made with Strata and Galaxy hops.

Tanzenwald Brewing Company

  • Trivial Pursuits An experimental IPA tapped in late December, “This version is double dry hopped with New Zealand Nectaron and El Dorado hops,” the brewpub explains: “Super juicy, MEGA hoppy, with a sweet end.”

  • Non Playable Character The hazy IPA is back on tap
  • Plot Amor Imperial red ale

Unmapped Brewing Co.

  • Happy Camper Back in stock at the taproom, this is a THC-infused seltzer with a light black cherry flavor. No alcohol.

Urban Growler Brewing Company

  • Ginger Lemon Hard Seltzer A 7.5% ABV new hard seltzer, also sold in liquor stores.
  • Midwest IPA – As the brewery celebrates its tenth year, several old recipes will return, beginning with Midwest IPA. “A sturdy malt backbone helps balance the hop bitterness of this IPA,” the brewery says, leading to “Citrus followed by floral and spice to round out the hop profile.” On draft and in stores.
  • The Desert Mule A non-alcoholic Moscow Mule-inspired cocktail made with HOney Cream soda, ginger beer, and lime juice.

Venn Brewing Company

  • By The Thousands A new collaboration with the band By The Thousands, unnamed as of press time. Their previous team-up resulted in Bloody Haze. On tap Wednesday.

Wabasha Brewing Company

  • GRRL DNNR The hazy IPA is back on tap in Saint Paul.

Waldmann Brewery

  • Doppelbock “Mahogany-hued with robust aromatics of caramelized malt and toffee, this beer reveals itself sip by sip, unfolding in complex layers of caramel, toasted bread, and delicate varieties of sweetness that are complimented by just a touch of hop bitterness,” the brewery says. 9.0% ABV.

Wild Mind Ales

  • Guiding Light – A 5.1% ABV Munich-style dunkel, tapping on Friday.

Wooden Hill Brewing Company

  • Anchovy – A West Coast-style IPA made with the new Anchovy hop. 7% ABV.

Yoerg Brewing

  • Rauchbier – A smoked Marzen-style lager with soft grass, grain, and smoke notes. “Once the smoke subsides a bit, flecks of pepper, bitter orange, and red apple core can be found on the finish,” Yoerg says. 6.1% ABV.
