Welcome to Beer Dabbler’s Freshies, our weekly rundown on the newest beers hitting the store shelves and taproom coolers in Minnesota from your favorite local and national breweries. 

E

aster is hoppy lager season, with plenty of colorful sour ales, unique ciders, and sweet pastry stouts to fill out that Easter basket. Holiday-minded offerings vary from traditional pilsners to a carrot cake amber ale this week, with mixed culture and kettle sours to add balance and variety.

But there are also new takes on local classics. Double Furious IPA is back, for a limited time, and Summit has big news about Sága IPA. Wondering what else is new? We have a thorough listing below in this week’s Freshies update.

Sixpoint Brewery RESIN DIPA –  RESIN slaps you with serious unfiltered dankness with hop flavor up front, but drinks super clean for the size of the beer. RESIN features Chinook and Centennial hops with tons of resin and pine notes utilizing different hops, for a massively complex hop bouquet. 9.1% ABV

Venn Brewing Co. Saison du Fleur – Belgian Saison with Hibiscus. 6.5% ABV

Blackstack Brewing Are You There God? Its Me Guava Smoothie Sour – A mixed-culture foeder-fermented Berliner-base conditioned on questionable quantities of Pink Guava & Tahitian Vanilla Bean Caviar with a dash of milk sugar for good measure. 6.4% ABV

Falling Knife Brewing Co. School Picture Day TIPA – School Picture Day TIPA features Talus Lupomax, Mosaic Cryo, Citra Cryo & Idaho 7 Hops. 9.3% ABV 

Bad Weather Brewing Co. Sun Pillar Belgian Blonde Ale – Subtle spicy yeast notes are accompanied by the sweetness of Belgian Pilsen malt and candi sugar. Bubble gum and clove permeate the soft aroma coming off a silky white tuft of foam. 5.1% ABV

  • Pineapple Mango Sour – A spring seasonal sour ale with juicy, tropical, and acidic fruit notes. 4.8% ABV, 5 IBU.

Bent Paddle Brewing Co.

  • Kanu Pale Ale – The session pale ale is back in 12 packs now.

Boom Island Brewing Company

  • Kriek – A Belgian-style lambic with cherries, aged in French oak wine barrels. Back now and sold in 750-milliliter bottles.
  • Shapeshifter #3 – Tapping today, this is a coffee-infused stout from Boom Island.

Burning Brothers Brewing

  • Imperial Stout – On tap at Saturday’s 9th Anniversary party (12-10 pm), along with summer beer debuts.

Clutch Brewing Co.

  • The Straight 8 – An IPA made with only Mosaic hops.

Duluth Cider

  • Fool Around And Find Out – A limited dry cider with a blend of hot peppers, tapped on April 1 in limited supply.
  • The Bloob Is Back – “Squishy juicy blueberries and maple syrup from the North Shore of Lake Superior make this semi-sweet seasonal a dangerously tasty delight,” the cidery says. 6.2% ABV. 

Fair State Brewing Cooperative

  • Strong Friend Moves – A new 4.5% crisp and hoppy Pilsner lager.

Falling Knife Brewing Co.

  • Backbreaker – A 6% ABV pale ale made with Simcoe and Idaho 7 hops.
  • Eye of Heaven – “Your gateway to otherworldy hazy hop nirvana. Featuring transcendent amounts of classic Simcoe, rarely encountered Cryo Pop and our hand-selected Strata hops to impart a bombastic fruit cup of hop wizardry,” the brewery says. A 6.7% ABV hazy oat IPA.
  • Freudenfredue – “Built with a little more body than a Helles and a little less bitter than a Pilsner, Freudendredue sings with mild notes of spice, herbs, and fruit for this crushable beauty,” Falling Knife says of this crisp 5% ABV lager collaboration with Nine Mile.

Fergus Brewing Company

  • Cabin Sunrise – A wheat ale with orange peel, tapped today and pouring at 4.7% ABV.
  • Raspberry Wren – Tapped on Thursday and brewed for International Women’s Day, this is a 5.0%ABV kettle sour made with marshmallow fluff and raspberry, inspired by the British Women’s Royal naval service and Operation Raspberry. 

Invictus Brewing Co.

  • Green Apple Shine – “Shining bright with the fresh crisp taste of granny smith apples, a little tart, a little green and a little sweet,” the brewery says. 6.0% ABV.

Lakes & Legends Brewing Company

  • Beach Buds – A sour ale with passion fruit and guava. On tap now and in liquor stores soon.
  • C.W.L – Tapped on Thursday, C.W.L. is a new hoppy lager.

Lift Bridge Brewing Co.

  • Cub Blueberry Muffin – Another Cub Foods bakery collaboration, this 4% ABV blonde ale is inspired by blueberry muffins.
  • Lime Time – A spring Pilsner with added lime juice and salt. 4.5% ABV.

Lupulin Brewing Company

  • Cerise de Chance (Dec ’22) The fourth version of this barrel-aged sour ale with cherries is available today, including in 375-milliliter bottles. The finished product pours bright red with tart, jam-like cherry flavors. 8% ABV.
  • Dortmunder – The award-winning German-style lager is back. This beer pours at 5.5% ABV and is described as gentle caramel malts swirling against bread crust flavors, floral notes, and hints of citrus. On the finish, a soft bite of hoppy resin keeps things bright and balanced.

Nouvelle Brewing

  • Ripple – A new bottle-conditioned Belgian-style tripel with notes of orange, banana, pear, and apple, plus layers of honey and spicy pepper, the brewpub says, including pairing suggestions through Saturday.

Oliphant Brewing

  • Lizardize Mariguanas Pale Ale with Grapefruit – The lasted Lizardize Mariguanas is a collaboration with Stinson Wine, Beer & Spirits. 5.5% ABV.
  • Sangy Squishy – This 5% ABV sour ale has added chocolate, marshmallow, peanut butter, cherry, banana, and lactose.

Summit Brewing Company

  • Sága Hazy IPA – Summit is expanding its core IPA lineup, with a new tropical and citrus fruit-forward hazy IPA. On tap at Summit today and coming to liquor stores and bars this spring. 7% ABV.

Surly Brewing Co.

The tart, fruited ale is back now. Sold in a 12-pack variety pack with the following flavors:

  • Grapefruit Supreme
  • Key Lime Supreme
  • Paradise Punch Supreme
  • Piña Supreme
  • Double Furious – Out now for a limited time.

Swing Barrel Brewing Co.

  • Kenickie A West Coast-style IPA made with Cascade and Centennial hops for bitter flavors of citrus and pine. 7.1% ABV.
  • Session 2 – “Session 2 has the perfect balance of malt sweetness and citrusy hops,” the brewery says.

Talking Waters Brewing Co.

  • Triple Berry Tongue Twister – A fruit-forward smoothie sour. 5% ABV.

Tallgrass Cider

  • Afterglow – “This unique cider is crafted by steeping Aronia berries in a blend of early season apple varieties,” the southern Minnesota cidery says of its purple-hued new cider with lingering berry flavors.

Thesis Beer Project

  • Why Are You Still Here? – An oatmeal stout with blackberry, chocolate, and restrained roast flavors, brewed in collaboration with Pulpit Rock. 6.5% ABV and available on nitro at the brewery.

Third Street Brewhouse

  • Hunny Do – A spring seasonal wheat ale. 4.8% ABV and available in 12-ounce cans.
  • Sun Seeker – A 4.2% ABV spring shady, now on draft and in 12-ounce cans.

Thousand Lakes Brewing Co.

  • Cheesy Street – A slightly sour base beer with added blueberries, graham crackers, and cheesecake flavor.
  • Gladiator – A barrel-aged doppelbock lager, aged on both bourbon and brandy barrels, tapped last week. “A rich, smooth, and malty German lager…The barrel-aged version of Gladiator is complex and boozy with notes of vanilla, apple, and dark fruit with a malty sweet finish,” the brewery says. 9% ABV.
  • S’more of Nothing – Tapped in March, this stout has added cocoa, vanilla, graham crackers, and marshmallow fluff for big chocolate notes with a light, sweet finish, the brewery notes.

Utepils Brewing

  • Warheads candy-inspired lime sour – This week’s limited Finite Fridays infusion.

Venn Brewing Company

  • DILL-EMMA – A new pickle gose. 4.5% ABV.
  • Piña Colada – A new flavor of THC tonic is available now in 16-ounce cans. 5mg per can.

  • Saison du Fleur – A Belgian-style saison with hibiscus, pouring 6.5% ABV.

Waconia Brewing Company

  • Centennial Pale Ale – On tap today.
  • Easter Egg Flashpoint – Available beginning today.

Waldmann Brewery

  • Hefeweizen – A traditional-style hefeweizen with banana and clove notes and brewed with Weyermann floor-malted Pilsner and wheat malts.

WeldWerks Brewing Co.

  • It’s a Unicorn Thing – A new hazy double IPA made with Citra, Lotus, and Mosaic hops. 8.5% ABV.
  • Key Lime Pie – A sweet, yet tart dessert-inspired beer made with vanilla, graham crackers, and lime. 5.1% ABV.

Wild Mind Ales

  • WLD WTR Infusions Revival: Citrus Punch – Citrus Punch flavored THC sparkling water, this time with 80mg of caffeine in addition to 5mg THC.
  • WLD WTR Infusions Revival: Peach Mango – A sparkling water with real peach and mango joined, plus 5mg THC and 80mg caffeine.

Wooden Hill Brewing Co.

  • Azacca-naut – A 6.1% ABV juicy IPA with Azacca hops and lactose. Part of the Planet Hopper series and is available now.
  • Rabbit Hole – A carrot cake-inspired amber ale made with cinnamon, cloves, vanilla beans, and lactose. 5% ABV.
