Welcome to Beer Dabbler’s Freshies, our weekly rundown on the newest beers hitting the store shelves and taproom coolers in Minnesota from your favorite local and national breweries.

I

f you’re wondering where the party is this week, the answer is everywhere. Oktoberfest celebrations with custom steins, German-inspired lagers, and live music are plentiful in every area of the state right now.

Oktoberfest is a celebration of the harvest, which also points us to the next seasonal style to hit taplines: the fresh hop (or wet hop) beer. A few are available now and expect to see more IPAs and pale ales in the coming weeks, each showing off the local terroir of its farm, whether locally sourced or picked and shipped from the Pacific Northwest.

Each week, the Beer Dabbler team highlights five of the most tantalizing new beers available around the great state of Minnesota that we’re most excited to try. Top Flight beers are not necessarily available for purchase at Dabbler Depot–call for availability.

Alloy Brewing Company 2022 Barrel Aged Iron Kilt – “This year’s version of our Iron Kilt Scottish Wee Heavy was aged for 9 months in Crooked Water Distilling King’s Point Bourbon (ex Port) barrels. It’s a sweet malty delight, expressing a Highland brogue with a light hop finish,” the brewery says. 10.1% ABV, 31 IBU.

Disgruntled Brewing Oktoberfest – Available now, including in cans available for take-home purchase at the brewery. Disgruntled will host an Oktoberfest party on Oct. 1.

Goat Ridge Brewing Co. Harvest Ale – Made with local, fresh Cascade hops and on tap this Saturday.

Nouvelle Brewing Strata – “This wet hop IPA was made with fresh Strata hops from our pals at Crosby Hops in Oregon, picked just hours before brewing. Using a unique process of freezing the hops with liquid nitrogen and gently breaking them apart, we were able to extract all that juicy lupulin from inside,” the brewpub says. 6.9% ABV.

Unmapped Brewing Co. (r)EVOLVE – A biere de garde with brettanomyces and the first beer in Unmapped’s mixed culture, foeder-aged series.
