Welcome to Beer Dabbler’s Freshies, our weekly rundown on the newest beers hitting the store shelves and taproom coolers in Minnesota from your favorite local and national breweries. 

T

he big hitters are back. Bell’s Hopslam is out now and Bourbon County Stout is on its way. This week we see some local beer crawls, cranberry and peanut butter seasonals, and then a blackout of many local taplines come the day after Thanksgiving, which we’re listing now as Freshies is taking the holiday week off to spend with family and imbibe in a few of the beers listed below.

Arbeiter Dip Check Cold IPA 4pk 16oz – A Cold IPA built for the Minnesota winters! Aromas of orange and pine meet resinous pineapple and tangerine hop flavors. A light clean body, that packs a hop punch! Coming in at a robust 7.0% ABV this baddy is like its own liquid warming house when you’re on the ice! 6.7% ABV

Venn Opulessence Imperial Stout 4pk 16oz – An Imperial Stout with flavors of cinnamon, maple, and coffee…but don’t fret out lactose intolerant friend, Opulessence does not contain lactose! 3.5% ABV

Insight Sunken City Saison 4pk 16oz – The fruity and light spiciness of the beer blends delicately with the grassy herbal characters of the sauvignon blanc grapes, leading to a wonderfully complex and exuberant beer. 7.8% ABV 

Portage + Falling Knife Longest Way Home Dark Lager 4pk 16oz – A collaboration with Falling Knife Brewing in Minneapolis. Longesete Way Home is inspired by a campfire in the North Woods on a cold night, this beer was designed to warm you up. Using a complex malt of German malts, and Saaz hops which are fermented on maple wood, this beer is packed with complex notes of warm bread, subtle smoke, and wood tannins. 5.7% ABV 

Parish Ghost In The Machine 4pk 12oz Btls – Ghost in the Machine, a double India Pale Ale is brewed with obscene quantities of hand-selected Citra hops from our favorite farm in Yakima Valley, WA. Expect pungent grapefruit aromas and flavors, tropical fruit, and less harsh bitterness than most IPAs. 8% ABV

56 Brewing

  • Coco del Mur – An imperial stout with coconut and vanilla, brewed in collaboration with Black Brewers Podcast. The release party runs from 6-10 pm on Saturday.

Arbeiter Brewing

  • Black Is Beautiful: Vol. 2 – A hazy IPA at 7.0% ABV, 35 IBU with juicy, tropical fruit flavors and a creamy body.

Bell’s Brewery

  • Hopslam – The double IPA is back for 2023.

Bemidji Brewing

  • Double Porter – “Brewed with the flavorful malts from Simpson’s Malting in England, this rich and decadent beer greets you with aromas of dark chocolate and brown sugar. Notes of coffee, cocoa, and subtle raisin lead into a silky and warming finish,” the brewery notes. 10.0% ABV, 24 IBU.

Bent Brewstillery

  • ÆẊÇȻȄŠŜƗṾẺ ÅḈƇḚŊȾṨ – A new double dry-hopped hazy IPA taps at 2 pm this Friday with sweet fruit, citrus, tropical, and pine flavors.
  • Dark Fatha: Single Barrel Select – This very limited imperial stout was finished on rye whiskey barrels and is on sale on Black Friday in 750-milliliter bottles at 2 pm at the brewstillery located near Rosedale Mall.
  • Maple Cream Soda – A new nonalcoholic THC beverage with 10mg THC per can.

Bent Paddle Brewing Co.

  • Hop Stream – A new hop water option, alcohol-free, crisp, aromatic, and made with both El Dorado and Mosaic hops.

Birch’s On The Lake

  • Blood Orange THC Seltzer – 0% ABV, 10mg THC, 15mg CBD.

  • Strawberry THC Seltzer – 0% ABV, 10mg THC, 15mg CBD, released two weeks ago.

  • Wake ‘N Bake – A limited cold press coffee THC-infused seltzer. 0% ABV, 10mg THC, 15mg CBD.

Blacklist Brewing Co.

  • Cran – Back for the fall season now.
  • Lifted & Bridged: Orange Soda – A 10mg THC seltzer that debuted on Halloween.

Blackstack Brewing

  • Bursting With Joy – Tapped a couple of weeks ago, this New England-style IPA has a Citra meets Citra Hopburst meets Nectaron Hopburst profile. 7.0% ABV and available in cans too.

  • Routine – A straight stout: “Smooth, roasty toasty, and timeless,” Blackstack says. On tap and in stores. 

  • Standing Ovation – A triple dry-hopped triple IPA made with Strata, Cashmere, and Cashmere Cryo hops. 10.5% ABV, on draft and in stores.

  • Streaming Services – Mosaic, Mosaic Cryo, Talus, and El Dorado in a fluffy New England-style IPA. 7.0% ABV.

  • Subway Tiles – A pale ale made with Mosaic hops, plus Talus and Idaho 7 for additional depth. 5.6% ABV.

Boom Island Brewing Company

  • Limited Edition Black Beers – “In the spirit of Black Friday, we’re unveiling a range of limited edition black beers, exclusively on tap for this event. Dive deep into the rich, roasty notes of these unique brews,” Boom Island says.

Disgruntled Brewing

  • Many Moons Ago – A sour ale with blueberry, pistachio, almond, marshmallow, and lactose.

Elm Creek Brewing Co.

  • Man Made Horse Sounds – Coconut was added to this 6.8% ABV porter with caramel, chocolate, and roasty flavors.

Fair State Brewing Cooperative

  • Cranberry Gose – A taproom-exclusive tart and fruity gose with cranberry.
  • Zoomie Catcher – A new barleywine, making its debut on Thanksgiving Eve.

Fulton Brewing

  • NARC Sparkling THC Water – Fulton has a new line of nonalcoholic cannabis beverages, each with 0 calories, 0 sugars, and 0 carbs, and sold in glass bottles–Flavors are Blueberry and Pineapple.

Goose Island Beer Co.

2023 Bourbon County lineup, available on Black Friday:

  • Angel’s Envy 2-Year Cask Finish Stout – First aged in Angel’s Envy port-finished bourbon and then finished in Ruby Port wine barrels. 15.5% ABV.
  • Backyard Stout – A bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout finished and blended with mulberries, boysenberries, and marionberries. 12.9% ABV.
  • Bananas Foster Stout – A 13.9% ABV barrel-aged imperial stout made with bananas, almonds, and cassia bark.
  • Bourbon County – The original, aged in bourbon barrels from Buffalo Trace, Heaven Hill, Four Roses, and Wild Turkey, and sold in two variants this year. One at 14.1% ABV, and the other at 14.6% ABV.
  • Eagle Rare 2-Year Reserve Stout – As the name says, this beer was barrel-aged in Eagle Rare barrels.
  • Proprietor’s Stout – A Chicago-only variant inspired by rice pudding and pouring 14.3% ABV.

Hacienda Beer Co

  • Obnoxious Heckler – A barleywine with notes of stone fruit, toffee, coffee, and pit fruits, the brewery says. Barrel-aged and pouring 12% ABV. Available on Black Friday.
  • Velvet Bulldozer 2023 – A 16% ABV barrel-aged imperial stout with vanilla, chocolate, and bourbon, available on Black Friday. The 2022 variant will also pour at the Wisconsin brewery.

Inbound BrewCo

  • MN Rice – A rich porter made with wild rice, now on tap and coming to liquor stores soon.

Indeed Brewing Company

  • Rum King – Bottles of this imperial stout aged in rum barrels are available for pickup on Saturday, Nov. 25 (preorders available. “Complex notes of toffee and vanilla lure you in, with a roasty-toasty, malt-forward body,” the brewery notes.

Junkyard Brewing Company

  • UltraCloud – “Expect a burst of tropical mango and ripe pineapple in every sip, along with zesty hints of juicy fruit gum and white grape juice,” Junkyard says.

Lake Monster Brewing

  • Roasted Peanut Porter – “Robust dark chocolate flavor with just enough nuttiness for a clean finish make this a perfectly drinkable cold season ale,” Lake Monster explains.

Lupulin Brewing Company

  • Imperial CPB – Also known as Imperial Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter, this malty beer has big chocolate and peanut butter flavors and an oatmeal porter base. 10.0% ABV, 30 IBU.
  • Sticky Puddles: Cherry Cheesecake – On tap and in stores now.

Mana Brewing Co.

  • Spruce Tip Pale Ale – “Our collab beer captures the season’s essence, giving you a taste of citrus and pine that’ll transport you to the holidays,” the brewery says of its collaboration With Shakopee Brewhall and Schram Haus Brewery for the Chaskopee Brew Crawl this Saturday.

Mankato Brewery

  • Mad Butcher Supercharged – A limited double IPA take on Mad Butcher, continuing Mankato’s “IPA Month” promotion.

Modist Brewing Co.

  • Killin’ The Vanillin – A bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout conditioned on Madagascar, Mexican, and Indonesian vanilla beans, and packaged with a quarter vanilla bean in each bottle. Available Saturday and sold on draft and in 500-milliliter bottles.
  • Something For You – “A saison brewed with floor malted Bohemian Pilsner malt, Red Wheat Malt, Spelt Malt, Triticale Flakes, hopped with Hallertauer Hersbrucker and Bravo, fermented with a hybrid blend of saison yeasts, aged in white wine barrels with Brettanomyces…With notes of white grape, white pepper, passion fruit, hay, and citrus grove funk and highly carbonated with a very dry finish,” Modist explains. 6.5% ABV and available on Saturday in 750-milliliter bottles.

Nordic Brewpub

  • Thunder Bus – Seasonal is back on tap now.

Oliphant Brewing

  • Coconut Hunkboy – A robust porter with coconut. 6% ABV.

  • Strawberry Kiwi Kushy – A new THC beverage. 10mg THC, 5mg CBD.

  • Zozo Gungun – A triple IPA made with Cryo Mosaic and Wakatu hops. 10% ABV.

Saint Paul Brewing

  • Dreamline – Tapped on Tuesday as part of the brewery’s ongoing porter infusion series.
  • Trees – An infused porter set to tap on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

Schram Haus Brewery

  • Spruce Tip Pale Ale – Also part of the Chaskopee Brew Crawl (see Mana’s entry above), this limited seasonal beer has citrus and pine flavors. 

Spilled Grain Brewhouse

  • Cousin Eddie – A spiced Christmas ale to get your holiday festivities underway. Available Thanksgiving week.

Surly Brewing Company

  • Polish Pils – A new Intelligent Design series beer, this one is a collaboration with Goldfinger Brewery (Downers Grove, IL).

Take 16 Beer

  • Audacity – A big beer at 11.1% ABV with a big body and flavors of chocolate and dried fruit.

Talking Waters Brewing Company

  • Crusin’ Nuts – Peanut butter porter

  • Mixed Signals – A hazy pale ale, on tap in Montevideo.

  • White Noise – A juicy 7% IPA with citrus, pineapple, and mango-like flavors.

Tanzenwald Brewing Company

  • Rio de Oro A parfait sour made with marshmallows, cinnamon, vanilla, and local raspberries.

The Freehouse

  • N°61 – “A rich, sweet, creamy stout with balanced peanut butter and chocolate flavors,” the brewpub says.

Thesis Beer Project

The brewery will introduce a flight board of new sour flavors this Saturday:

  • All Inclusive – “A little bit of everything with this cherry, lime, and orange combo,” says Thesis.
  • Island Vibes – A peach sour with coconut.
  • Tropical Breeze – Pineapple and guava set the tone.
  • Wonder Reef – A strawberry/-mango beer.

Venn Brewing Company

  • Double Down Vanilla Brown – Back on tap and 8.0% ABV.
  • Opulessence Cinnamon Maple Latte – A new imperial stout with cinnamon, maple, and coffee additions (no lactose).

Waconia Brewing Company

  • Doppelbock – Tapped on Friday.
  • Cranberry Kölsch – Available next Wednesday, Nov. 22.
  • Cranberry Porter – A single 5-gallon cask taps on Sunday, Nov. 26 at 11 am.
  • Pecan Porter – Available next Wednesday, Nov. 22.

Wild Mind Ales

  • Balance Of Time – A traditionally inspired Kölsch-style ale with a light body, fruity aroma, and hoppy bitterness, the brewery explains. 4.7% ABV.
  • Terror Bird – Flavors of toffee, rum-soaked tobacco, fruit, cake, and sherry set the tone in this American-style barleywine, Wild Mind says. 12.6% ABV.
  • WLD WTR CBD Seltzer: Passionfruit – The first in a new line of CBD seltzers. 25mg CBD. WLD WTR Infusions: Citrus Punch

Wooden Hill Brewing Company

  • Coconut Cluster – On tap now, this porter features roasted malt flavors, plus toasted coconut and hazelnut. 6.2% ABV.
