Welcome to Beer Dabbler’s Freshies, our weekly rundown on the newest beers hitting the store shelves and taproom coolers in Minnesota from your favorite local and national breweries.

I

t finally feels like fall (or maybe even winter), with the colors in peak form and Autumn Brew Review taking place in Minneapolis. We’re wrapping up Oktoberfest, which celebrates the harvest, and that bounty is on display in multiple forms this week, including fresh hop beers, apple celebrations, pumpkin pie flavors, and blueberry infusions.

And speaking of unpopular seasonal flavors that people love to hate and hate to love, Urban Growler’s annual candy corn cream ale is back too. Because everything is better in beer form.

Each week, the Beer Dabbler team highlights five of the most tantalizing new beers available around the great state of Minnesota that we’re most excited to try. Top Flight beers are not necessarily available for purchase at Dabbler Depot–call for availability.

Bauhaus Brew Labs Schwarzbear – A new smoked German-style dark lager, brewed in collaboration with HammerHeart, available on Sunday with a release party from 2-6pm. The can features artwork by HammerHeart co-founder Austin Lunn.

BlackStack Brewing Late To The Party – “We brewed this beer with Weyermann Malt, spunded it for natural carbonation and left it unfined/filtered as an homage to the endlessly gulpable biers you’ll find at the tents in Munich during Oktoberfest festivities,” BlackStack says of its 6.0% festbier.

Dual Citizen Brewing Company Harvest Season – A fresh hop ale with Centennial hops from Crosby Hop Farm. This beer offers floral notes with lemon candy and citrus on the nose, the Dual Citizen says. 5.1% ABV.

Fair State Brewing Cooperative The Original Hot IPA – “Cold IPAs are so 2021. Here at Fair State, we’re living in 2022 so prepare to have your mind blown: Thursday is the world premiere of the Hot IPA,” the brewery proclaims. “Born out of a brainstorming session between Niko and Neil from Bent Paddle. We created a recipe for a juicy IPA and fermented it with saison yeast. During fermentation, we let temps climb into the 80s which is a cardinal sin with most yeast strains, but where saison yeast thrives. It allows all the expressive characteristics of the yeast to shine through the hops, creating a pleasant blend of tropical hop flavors with earthy saison esters for balance.” 6.0% ABV and sold in 500-milliliter bottles.

Urban Growler Brewing Company Candy Corn Imperial Cream Ale – Fifty pounds of Brach’s candy corn went into the making of this 8.3% ABV, 18 IBU fall seasonal.
